I usually bring home a souvenir whenever I travel. But the travel souvenirs I treasure most are my freckles!
I hadn’t even noticed the freckles on my face. But my mom seemed to have know about them all along. She told me they had started appearing during my last trip to Europe. My family suggested that I get rid of my freckles. In Korea, clear, blemish-free skin is often considered a beauty ideal. For a while, I wondered whether I should have them removed. But then a thought crossed my mind: “Freckles are my travel souvenirs.” From that moment on, they became something precious to me.
Whenever I look at my freckles, they remind me of all the time I spent wandering around in the sun. They hold memories that will never completely fade. Unlike other souvenir, I never have to worry about losing them or forgetting where I put them. They are always with me, quietly bringing those moments back to me in the middle of everyday life.
Maybe the things I want to bring home from a trip are not always things I can hold. They might also be new memories, small habits, or slightly different ways of thinking and seeing the world.

I still love eating good food, buying pretty things, and taking beautiful photos while I travel. But if something continues to bring back moments from the trip and the person I was in those moments even after I return home, I think that makes a pretty good souvenir too.
As the years have passed, I have spent more days traveling, taking walks, and roaming around in the sun, and litttle by little, I have collected more freckles! I think they will remain the lightest souvenirs I carry with me for a long time.
What is the most meaningful souvenir you have ever brought home?
